“We now have about 30 hotels in Europe and another 70 in the pipeline,” said Markus Lehnert the regional vice president of International Hotel Development Marriot International during the 10th Hotel Investment Conference organised by Eurobuild CEE together with Hotel Professionals Management Group in the Moxy Warsaw Praga hotel.
He went on to add that agreements for the development of seven Moxy hotels in Poland had also been signed. The new locations will include Poznań, Szczecin, Katowice and also in Warsaw.
The first panel discussion focused on the advantages and challenges of developing hotels in historic buildings, such as the Moxy hotel in Praga. Janusz Owsiany, the CEO of Stowarzyszenie Monopol Warszawski compared developing such a hotel to a show, in which all the details such as the history, the buildings, the neighbourhood and the cuisine all play an important role. “One important element is that all these local tastes which are always a part of Moxy, were already here within the walls. We didn’t need to add much to create the feeling we were looking for,” said Krzysztof Tyszkiewicz, a board member of BBI Development.
Markus Lehnert also stressed that it was important for the investor to have a vision for the project. “You could see from the very beginning that this destination was going to become something of great diversity with a museum, a conference centre, a retail area, and offices and also that there was vision of what could be done without destroying what was already there,” he claimed.
